We installed the MaxxFan Deluxe 7000K and the Fan-Tastic 7350 Power Vent in the same 32-ft fifth wheel and ran them side by side through a full Arizona summer season — from 65°F desert mornings to 110°F afternoons, in rain, in dust, and through everything a Southwest summer throws at an RV.
Noise Levels
This is the Fan-Tastic's decisive advantage. At Speed 1, the Fan-Tastic 7350 produced 38 dB(A) inside the RV — library quiet, barely audible. The MaxxAir at Speed 1 measured 44 dB(A). At comparable medium speeds, the Fan-Tastic consistently ran 5–8 dB(A) quieter. That difference is significant for sleeping — a 5 dB difference is roughly perceived as half as loud.
At maximum speed, both fans are noticeably loud (around 58–62 dB(A)) and the difference narrows. But most users run vent fans at night for sleep ventilation — and that's where the Fan-Tastic's low-speed silence wins outright.

MaxxAir's MaxxFan Deluxe 7000K is a 10-speed, 900 CFM roof vent with a motorized lid that opens and closes automatically with the fan. Its unique feature: the lid design allows the fan to run with the lid open during light rain, keeping ventilation going without water intrusion. Available in white or black, with or without remote control.
Fan-Tastic's Vent 7350 OW Power Vent is a 3-speed fan with an integrated thermostat and a reputation for near-silent low-speed operation. The 7350 automatically opens when you turn it on and closes on shutdown or when a rain sensor detects moisture. Fan-Tastic fans have been a staple of full-timer rigs for 30+ years and have a loyal following among those who prioritize quiet over raw airflow.
Installation Comparison
Both fans replace a standard 14x14-inch roof vent opening and install with the same basic process: remove the existing vent lid and frame, install the new fan frame into the opening, connect 12V power, and seal around the perimeter. Total installation time for a mechanically-comfortable DIYer is 60–90 minutes for either unit.
The MaxxAir installation is straightforward — the motorized lid mechanism is factory-assembled and just needs power. The Fan-Tastic thermostat wiring has more connections but the instructions are clear. Both come with installation hardware. If you're comfortable drilling and sealing, neither requires professional installation.
Airflow Performance
The MaxxFan Deluxe 7000K is rated at 900 CFM on its highest speed (Speed 10). In our testing with an anemometer, we measured approximately 840 CFM at the vent opening — close to spec. The Fan-Tastic 7350 is rated at 900 CFM as well, though Fan-Tastic's CFM rating historically uses slightly different measurement methodology. In matched testing in the same RV, the MaxxAir moved measurably more air at maximum speed.
At lower speeds — where most RVers run their fans — the difference is negligible. Both fans effectively ventilate a 32–40 ft RV at medium speed settings. The 10-speed MaxxAir provides more granular control between minimum and maximum; the Fan-Tastic's 3-speed range is adequate but coarser.
Rain-Day Operation
MaxxAir wins this category. The MaxxFan's lid is designed to deflect light-to-moderate rain away from the fan while still allowing airflow. We ran the MaxxAir through three rainstorms ranging from drizzle to a heavy summer monsoon; the fan continued operating effectively in drizzle and light rain without water entering the RV. In the heavy monsoon, we shut it off — the lid does have limits.
The Fan-Tastic 7350 features a rain sensor that automatically closes the vent lid when moisture is detected. This is elegant but means ventilation stops the moment rain begins. If you frequently camp in regions with afternoon rain showers (Pacific Northwest, monsoon Southwest, Southeast in summer), the MaxxAir's rain-day capability is a real quality-of-life advantage.
Thermostat and Auto Features
The Fan-Tastic 7350 includes an integrated thermostat that automatically adjusts fan speed based on ambient temperature — set a target temperature and walk away. The MaxxFan has an optional thermostat mode but requires the remote-control version (MaxxFan 7000KR) to enable auto-thermostat function; the base 7000K doesn't include it.
For hands-off summer ventilation — set it and forget it through a hot afternoon — the Fan-Tastic 7350's standard thermostat is the better automatic solution.
Build Quality and Warranty
Both brands are well-regarded for durability. MaxxAir's motorized lid mechanism adds moving parts that could theoretically fail over time — we've seen a handful of reports of lid motor failures after 5+ years of heavy use. The Fan-Tastic's mechanically simpler spring-actuated lid has fewer failure points. Both brands offer 1-year warranties with good customer service reputations.
